A Symbol of Love, Healing, and Remembrance: Ozark Hospice’s Annual Butterfly Release

At Ozark Hospice, we believe in honoring every life with compassion, dignity, and grace—even after a loved one’s journey has come to an end. One of the most meaningful ways we celebrate this belief is through our Annual Butterfly Release, a heartfelt tradition that brings families together to remember and honor those they have lost.

A Tradition Rooted in Remembrance

First held in 2023, the Butterfly Release was created as a way for families and our community to come together in a shared space of healing. Surrounded by the gentle beauty of nature at McLane Park, families release butterflies—each one a symbol of transformation, peace, and the enduring spirit of their loved ones.

The event includes a memorial service with comforting words, prayer, and reflection. It’s a space where tears are met with support, stories are welcomed, and grief is shared in a circle of understanding. From scripture readings to the quiet moment of watching butterflies take flight, the ceremony is a reminder that though life may change, love lives on.

More Than a Ceremony—A Community of Support

Our butterfly release is not just an event; it’s part of Ozark Hospice’s commitment to supporting families through every step of their journey. We understand that grief doesn’t end after goodbye. That’s why we create opportunities for remembrance, connection, and healing beyond the clinical side of hospice care.

With each butterfly released, a message is carried into the sky: You are loved. You are remembered. You are not alone.

We are honored to walk alongside the families we serve and are grateful to the Poplar Bluff community for embracing this ceremony with such warmth and heart.
